The first three Drizzt trilogies were incredibly formative for me, though for me they don't really stand up to a more adult reading. The two sequels to it are also good (the second one is genuinely funny), but don't quite reach its heights. They're just light-years ahead of almost anything else in terms of voice and description.Īzure Bonds is and remains an excellent and fun adventure - bonkers and gonzo and surprisingly touching and really, really D&D. I do heartily recommend thread where he is (in an act of incredible endurance and questionable wisdom) currently reading and reviewing EVERY SINGLE ONE of the published Forgotten Realms novels.īest of the lot are the three Dark Sun books that Lynn Abbey wrote, forming an informal trilogy.

Most of them are, to be fair, pretty forgettable, and it's been over 20 years so I've largely forgotten them. D&D novels were basically all I read in the first few years of high school.
